Marquee tool (newbie alert)

Is there any particular reason to use a shape over a marquee if the marquee gives me the results I need?

Example, creating simple gradient background images for a web site.

Marquee tool (newbie alert)

Sure.

A shape is a vector element rasterized at the document resolution in real time. Try scaling your marquee'd rectangle five or six times and look at those edges. Ouch. If you decide to up the resolution of your doc, the vector shapes will retain their crispness. Also, they can occupy a lot less space in the file at higher resolutions. The list goes on (I think).

But learn to walk first. No worries.
