- Using the %26lt;%26lt; %26gt;%26gt; nagivation widget in the project.
- Am hiding / showing as needed - and that's working fine.?
- Have 3 simple, T/F questions - not graded.
- On the question slide, I have deleted all buttons except ''Submit'' and have ''hidden'' the widget (it Shows on the Answer slide).
In navigting the published course, clicking the Submit button has a very slow reaction. It takes about 3 seconds to move forward (like it's thinking about it!)
In the forum, I searched on this type of problem and one discussion talked about going to the Publishing Preferences and ''externalizing'' the widgets.?I use Captivate a lot - but I have no idea what that means.?I did perform this step and it did not speed up the response to clicking the button.
Can anyone enlighten me??Why might I be having this issue and what does ''externalizing'' really do???
Quiz issue - CP4, widgetsExternalizing widgets means exactly what it says. If you publish a Captivate project normally then it will embed all your animations and widgets into your Captivate SWF output file. This leaves you with just one single SWF file.
If you externalize widgets or animations then Captivate will not embed these into the output SWF but instead keep these as separate files and publish them as separate files. Sometimes this can fix issues with animations or widgets not running properly, but I fail to see why it should have any effect on the time of your submit button.

Quiz issue - CP4, widgetsThanks for your explanation, Michael - you're right - externalizing them did nothing, so I set it back.?Still having that timing issues, however.
Doris
Doris,
Can you post a screenshot (or cutout) of your timeline in Captivate for one of the problem slides? Use the camera icon to insert the picture directly in the post here so we avoid the queue.

Hi Michael:
Here's a Snagit.
One of the gals here said she reduced the slide time to as small as she could and it worked for her.?I haven't gotten to try that yet.
Hi again Michael:
I did test my friend's suggestion and it seems to be working.?So maybe mystery is solved, but would still like to hear any input you have on the subject.
Hi Doris,
That was indeed the issue - your friend was correct ;o)
That was why I asked you to post a screenshot of your timeline. If you look at your timeline you can see that you have a pause at around 1 / 1.5 second. After then pause you have an additional 1.5 seconds before the slide ends. The Submit button works by using the ''Continue'' function - bascially that means that when you click the button the playhead will move ahead on the timeline until it reaches the end. That is why you experienced the ''lag'' when you click the button.
